What to expect in an Awareness Through Movement Class or Workshop

In an ATM lesson I talk the class through a series of gentle movements, helping each person to notice their habitual ways of moving and exploring possibilities for extending and changing the way you move for greater ease and comfort.

Everyone works at their own pace, doing as much or as little as they are comfortable with. While the class follows the same movement pattern the emphasis is on you noticing and clarifying how you respond. Movements are often slow and detailed, questions posed bring awareness to how you experience each stage of the lesson. There are many rests and the mindful quality of a lesson helps quiet the nervous system in order to create the best conditions for learning. Many find classes deeply relaxing and feel more connected, grounded, energised and with improved posture and movement at the end of a session.

Lessons are often lying down, sometimes standing or sitting. There are hundreds of lessons so each one holds interest and surprise. Classes might focus on a particular area – the legs, pelvis, ribcage, shoulders, or the eyes – but always connect to the whole self.
